Pennsport Civic Association

Hello, Pennsport!

Our next general meeting will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., at the EOM Athletic Association (144 Moore St). We are excited to welcome back PA State Representative Elizabeth Fiedler (House District 184, which includes most of Pennsport) to answer neighbors’ questions and discuss the services provided by her district office. We are also welcoming a group from Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School — the largest tuition-free, K-12 charter school in the city — to discuss their campuses’ current programs and gauge community interest in a future school in the area.

Pennsport Civic’s second-annual Holiday Decoration Contest was a big success. We love seeing all of the decorated houses in the neighborhood around Christmastime! Thank you to residents who decorated their homes and participated in the contest, and to everyone who took the time to vote on our Facebook page. The winners are featured below.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the neighborhood businesses that donated to the prize pool. Their generosity is a reminder that our local businesses aren’t just places we shop — they’re active partners in the life and vibrancy of Pennsport.

On December 20th, we closed out the year with the final neighborhood cleanup of 2025. Thank you to our friends at Rebel & Wolf for hosting our group and providing hot coffee. We’re grateful to the 16 volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and got it done on the day. Small, steady acts of care add up.

A special thank-you to Steamfitters Local 420, whose generous donation enabled Pennsport Civic to purchase a weed wacker and leaf blower for use in our monthly cleanups. This equipment will be a huge help to our efforts in 2026 and beyond.

Our cleanup crew will take a pause during the chilly months of January and February, then reconvene in March. We look forward to more neighbors joining us in the spring.

On Saturday, November 15, Pennsport Civic is proud to join forces with our neighborhood parks for “Love Your Park” Fall Weekend, a citywide volunteer event to clean our public green spaces after a busy summer season and prepare them for winter. We invite all Pennsport neighbors and friends to participate for however long, and in whatever capacity, you can. Tools, gloves, coffee, and snacks will be provided. Please register at one of the links below.

Pennsport Civic’s next general meeting will be held Wednesday, November 12 at 7:00 PM at EOM (144 Moore St). This month, we welcome Philadelphia Police Captain (Third District) Louis Higginson to discuss and answer neighbors’ questions regarding public safety in our community.

Pennsport Civic’s next general meeting will be Wednesday, October 8, 7:00 PM, at EOM (144 Moore St). This month we welcome the team discussing Wharton Piers, a large residential building proposed behind the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 19 Union Hall, which itself is located at 1301 S Christopher Columbus Blvd.

A project at this location was previously presented to the community several times over the past few years. This presentation will be a new, by-right design for the project: approximately 380-feet tall with a few hundred residential units, publicly accessible commercial/retail, and improvements to the Delaware River Waterfront Trail.

Thanks to our neighbors who joined our monthly neighborhood cleanup on Saturday, September 20. We swept and cleared trash along portions of Reed, Gerritt, Wilder, Dickinson, S 2nd, and S 4th Streets. A big thank-you to Danny and the team at Modern Family MKRT (1500 E Moyamensing Ave), who co-hosted our event this month and offered complimentary coffee, lemonade, sweet tea, and mini sandwiches to volunteers.

For the remainder of 2025, Pennsport Civic Association’s cleanup crew will meet on the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM: October 18, November 15, and December 20. We look forward to partnering with neighborhood businesses to co-host each of these cleanups... Your suggestions are most welcome!

Thanks to everyone who joined our September general meeting on September 10th.

We were joined by representatives from the City’s Office of Clean and Green Initiatives, Philadelphia Horticultural Society (PHS), and the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC) to discuss ways to keep our neighborhood clean and green.

We invite you to learn more about PHS’s Tree Tenders program if you are interested in applying for a yard tree or street tree.
